Three years have passed since Deepinsight was first certified as an Eco-Lighthouse in 2021, and we are proud to have renewed the certification for another three years! Learn more about how we work purposefully for a more sustainable and eco-friendly operation.
What does it mean to be an Eco-Lighthouse?
Eco-Lighthouse is a recognized national environmental certification that provides businesses with tools to work systematically on sustainability. Eco-Lighthouse sets environmental and health, and safety requirements for companies that wish to certify themselves, which go beyond the minimum requirements that businesses are legally obligated to follow. This is because Eco-Lighthouse companies should be proactive, take responsibility for sustainability, and inspire improvement. For Deepinsight, this means continuously improving our performance in the areas of work environment, waste management, energy use, procurement, and transport. Our commitment through the Eco-Lighthouse certification means that we actively work to reduce our climate footprint and strive for a more sustainable future.
Why is Eco-Lighthouse important to us?
– Being an Eco-Lighthouse company goes hand in hand with our vision of ‘building a sustainable healthcare system through mathematics and code.’ It is about having a positive impact on society in everything we do, says Karoline Fauskanger Andersen, Head of People & Culture and Deepinsight's Eco-Lighthouse responsible.
The certification helps us to systematize our environmental work, contributes to continuous improvement, and ensures that the work is prioritized. In this way, we can be more transparent about our environmental goals and measures and ensure that we follow up in an effective manner that yields results.
For Deepinsight, it is not just a formality; it is part of our corporate social responsibility. In addition, an Eco-Lighthouse certification will help meet expectations and documentation requirements placed on companies, including in tendering processes.
Karoline explains that Deepinsight has already focused on environmental and climate measures even before we became an Eco-Lighthouse company, largely driven by passionate individuals in the company. Therefore, becoming an Eco-Lighthouse company has had the greatest impact on our work around health, environment, and safety (HMS). For Deepinsight, the focus on work environment and culture has been particularly educational and inspiring, and we have gained a much better understanding of how important this work actually is to spend time on. The people behind the company are our most important resource!

Head of People & Culture, Karoline and CEO, Olav celebrate the recertification.
Cultural and informational work
– We are committed to living up to our values and making ethical choices as a company. Therefore, we continuously work to build a culture that reflects our values. An important part of being an Eco-Lighthouse is about cultural work, where this mindset is followed and maintained, Karoline emphasizes.
Being an Eco-Lighthouse is therefore not just about concrete measures, but about promoting a culture where sustainable choices are a natural part of the daily lives of employees. Karoline believes that many have a desire to make better choices, but often lack the knowledge to establish good habits.
– Everyday life is full of choices made on autopilot. By conducting informational work and inspiring each other to develop good, environmentally friendly habits at work, one also creates increased awareness in general. In this way, one becomes better equipped to evaluate the choices one makes both in and outside of the workplace, and not least, this can spread to influence friends, family, and others.
Our initiatives and ambitions
In our work as an Eco-Lighthouse, we have both commitments and voluntary initiatives. We have established a dedicated environmental group that meets regularly to discuss ideas and ensure progress in the work.
Specific measures and routines we wish to highlight:
Routines to reduce food waste and recycle waste in the office
Used furniture: We are committed to reusing resources and purchasing used furniture instead of new when it is a good alternative. Buying used is not complicated, whether you need a single lamp or 20 identical office chairs; there are more and more players in the market, and some specialize solely in buying and selling, including transporting larger quantities of office furniture.
Regular, anonymous employee surveys to take the pulse of the company and map out what we are good at and where we have room for improvement.
Environmental day for the entire company:
input meeting/updates from the environmental work
environmental quiz
collection, review, and return of EE-waste (both from our operations and encouraging employees to tidy up at home and bring waste to the office)
Clean out your computer initiative, which involves limiting unnecessary data storage by cleaning up apps, programs, files, emails, etc.
– As a responsible company, we are aware of our role in society. We see our environmental work as part of a larger societal effort, where we, together with other players, contribute to sustainable development. It is a motivational factor that strengthens our work with the Eco-Lighthouse certification, says Karoline.
We are proud of what we have achieved so far, and we look forward to continuing the journey to contribute positively to a more sustainable world!
