DIPS is Norway's leading provider of e-health solutions for Norwegian hospitals and holds vast amounts of data and knowledge. Deepinsight is the technology company that transforms this into useful tools and services. Now the two companies will work together to streamline and enhance patient care.
– We see great opportunities with unused data in the healthcare sector. DIPS is an essential partner that provides us with a better understanding of health data so that we can develop services and tools based on machine learning and artificial intelligence, says Olav Willumsen Haugå, CEO of Deepinsight.
Data-driven solutions will make the healthcare sector more efficient, increase accuracy, and improve patient treatment at all levels. In the long run, the solutions that Deepinsight and DIPS build can save lives and save the healthcare sector significant costs.
– The collaboration between us and Deepinsight is based on a shared goal of creating data-driven products that benefit the population. This has set the standard for the collaboration, says Thomas Smedsrud, CEO of DIPS and Group CEO of Kernel.
Connecting technology with societal needs
DIPS and Deepinsight both have the accelerator and technology company Kernel on the ownership side. Kernel works to create faster development of solutions in e-health and facilitates collaboration across technology, domain knowledge, and data collection by acquiring companies with the potential to bring the healthcare sector into the future.
– Kernel shares our ambition to connect technology with societal needs, says Haugå at Deepinsight.

As part of Kernel, Deepinsight and DIPS achieve more than they would do individually.
The Kernel model assumes that all companies in the group should operate independently while benefiting from each other's knowledge and skills. Deepinsight therefore works independently on various projects but contributes to Kernel or DIPS when the need arises.
– DIPS and Kernel provide us with unique knowledge, seriousness, and weight that simplify our work to build future healthcare services. With over 30 years of accumulated experience in health and e-health, DIPS is a long-term partner that understands what it takes to succeed, explains Håvard Thøgersen, COO of Deepinsight.
An example where we have benefited from DIPS's experience and knowledge is the startup dose project with Diakonhjemmet, where we are building a tool that observes the effects of medications in relation to the patient's genetic data and medical history. The goal of the project is to provide doctors with the tools they need to find the right dose and medication from the first consultation.
– DIPS wants to give more than we receive back in partnership. Our goal is to create solutions that other actors can easily integrate with, says Smedsrud, adding:
– Deepinsight brings a sharp data background and knowledge of interesting fields. I feel that the developers at DIPS and Deepinsight are inspired by each other's knowledge.
Great advantages of data-driven technology
What will be essential moving forward, to build solutions that streamline and improve the healthcare sector, is that decision-makers invest in collecting and systematizing data in a secure manner.
– The use of data-driven solutions is a significant gap in the healthcare sector. Why shouldn't we be able to categorize kidney patients in the same way that online banking can categorize our spending, asks Smedsrud.

Building a data-driven application for use in hospitals should be able to be carried out more easily than it is today, believe DIPS and Deepinsight.
A common barrier to the development of data-driven solutions is that the needs further down in organizations are not communicated to those responsible for investment.
– Important health data is held in DIPS’s systems in Norwegian hospitals. Now it's about making use of these in practice, explains Haugå.
– Collaboration with experts ensures that we can utilize the data knowledge we possess in a safe way. With Deepinsight on board, a lot of exciting things will happen in e-health in the future, concludes Smedsrud.
